History
It was a time of change in 1959 as America braced for the start of a new decade.
In Burlington, Vermont, seemingly far removed from the events unfolding on the world stage, Laforrest H. Thompson and Robert C. Kelly started an accounting firm. Through several growth periods and changes in partners and ownership, what was once a three-person firm is today, Gallagher, Flynn & Company, LLP, one of the largest independent CPA and business advisory firms in northern New England with clients across the globe, 100 employees and offices in South Burlington, Vermont and Lebanon, New Hampshire.
At the start of 1972, after a decade of steady growth, both Edward Gallagher and Michael D. Flynn had joined the firm. Through their vision and passion, the Burlington-based firm grew to employ 45 people by 1987 when the name changed to Gallagher, Flynn & Company, LLP (GFC).
GFC’s trajectory earned national recognition, earning accolades as one of America’s nationally top 25 performing CPA firms, a “Best of the Best” (Bowman’s Accounting Report, 1997) and as “one of a new generation of up-and-coming smaller firms” and a “firm to watch” nationwide by Accounting Today in 1998 and 1999.
As GFC expanded its reach, so did the firm’s areas of expertise. Since the New Hampshire office opened in 2004, GFC established a proven track record of helping businesses around the region grow. Today, the firm offers an extensive range of services that encompass accounting and assurance, tax compliance and consulting, transaction and management advisory services, finance and accounting outsourcing, HR consulting, and more.
In November 2022, GFC opened an office in Ahmedabad, hired a head of the India office, and has grown the staff there since.
From 2020-2024, GFC has annually been named as one of the “Best Accounting Firms” to Work For by Accounting Today. In 2023, GFC was honored as the “Business of the Year” by the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce. Every year from 2013-2024, GFC has been named as “One of the Best Places to Work in Vermont” by Vermont Business Magazine and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce.
Through the growth and accolades, GFC continues to dedicate itself to being a trusted partner for businesses of all shapes and sizes.
